Day 2 Welcome and Keynote: AI and Advancement
Since chatGPT burst into the public consciousness last year, artificial intelligence has been the primary topic of conversation at conferences of all types. Everyone wants to know how this disruptive force will change the way we work. Please join us at this keynote address to hear UF Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives, Dr. David Reed, talk about AI and how it will impact not only the field of advancement, but virtually all of the fields that we support and rely on. The University of Florida went all-in on artificial intelligence back in 2020, acquiring academia’s fastest AI supercomputer, hiring new faculty, and teaching AI to virtually anyone that wants to learn it. They are now starting to see the fruits of their investment and are years ahead of other universities in building an AI workforce, at scale and speed. The future is upon us with AI, and the good news is that it is easy to learn.

10 Ways AI Will Change Advancement
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how we work, live, and learn. In this session, we'll explore how for-profit industries have embraced AI and where advancement should draw key lessons. We’ll dig into the ways advances in AI will fundamentally alter fundraising by enhancing efficiency, streamlining donor engagement, lowering costs, and giving institutional leadership real-time insights for better decision-making.
Via case studies from institutions at the forefront of leveraging AI for fundraising, we’ll show how AI is beginning to help universities identify and prioritize prospects, increase gift revenue, and ultimately drive more human-to-human connections.
Along the way, we'll highlight best practices and real-world examples of how organizations — both inside and outside advancement — are using AI to achieve their goals. And we'll discuss the challenges and ethical considerations that come with integrating AI into higher ed advancement.

"Beginner's Mind": How To Unlock Your Innate Creativity
Every creator has faced it: the dread of the blank page. Sometimes it turns into a full-blown creative block; or if you do manage to get something down, what you come up with may not engage or inspire you. When these problems strike, the culprit is often your “editor” self, who’s trying so hard to make everything perfect that your “creator” self can’t get a word in edgewise. This workshop will lead participants through in-class writing exercises that will teach you how to circumvent your editor so your creator can step forth and do its job. We'll do timed writings that focus on pure creation — no editing allowed — to help you escape the limitations of an everyday mindset and access “beginner’s mind.” Bring a pen, a notebook and a willingness to unlock your creativity.
