    Overview:

Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) enroll over 5 million students and are critical in providing access and opportunities for traditionally underrepresented and low-income students.  As part of the CASE Opportunity and Inclusion Center (OIC), it focuses on building advancement capacity, sustaining student access and creating opportunities for minority and first-generation and low-income students.  This effort emerged out of a two-year planning process funded by the Kresge Foundation and guided by a volunteer task force.

The OIC supports seven types of minority-serving institutions:

    1. Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (ANNAPISIs)
    2. Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions (ANNHs)
    3. Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)
    4. Hispanic Serving institutions (HSIs)
    5. Native American-Serving Non-Tribal Institutions (NASNTIs)
    6. Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs)
    7. Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs)
    8. MSI Community Colleges (MSICC)

    Key Priorities
    • Enhance the MSI community, which serves as a shared space for questions, information and best practices.
    • Provide professional development and training opportunities for advancement professionals, including leadership and trustees.
    • Offer access to CASE resources designed to increase awareness of resources available to advancement professionals.
    • Build the advancement profession by introducing the advance profession as a viable career option to students
