    District I Annual Conference Cancelled

CASE is committed to the health and well-being of our members, who form a supportive and enthusiastic global community of professionals. In normal circumstances, our members are eager to meet with their peers to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and advance education to transform lives and society.

But these are not normal circumstances.

With growing concerns about the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), CASE staff and volunteer leadership have made the difficult decision to cancel the District I annual conference, scheduled for March 11-13 in Boston. Those who spent months envisioning and organizing a program of real value are saddened by the need to cancel the event. A contributing factor to this decision was because the District I conference is so volunteer driven—from speakers and presenters, to registration and overall conference management—we could not be sure that the entire experience would live up to expectations.

CASE is investigating options that would allow us to organize and present a virtual conference at a later date featuring a number of the speakers and presenters who had planned to be with us in Boston, and will be able to offer more information on that option at a later date. If you had planned to attend the conference in Boston and already paid your registration fee, CASE will contact you with options to refund your conference fees or apply your investment to a future conference or product.

If you made reservations at the Westin Copley Place for the conference, we encourage you to contact the hotel directly to cancel your room reservations.

CASE will continue to monitor statements from local, national, and global public health authorities, and will update individual conference pages with site-specific information. All in-person conferences will offer frequent sanitation stations and hand sanitizer dispensers. We encourage our members to be aware of the travel restrictions at their origin and destination sites, and to practice preventative measures such as those outlined by the World Health Organization. For individuals who have a particular concern about international travel, we recommend a review of individual health insurance coverage and travel insurance options.

    Stewarding Donors Through Crisis

    Crises will happen.

Nonprofits put in place leadership structures, accountability measures, and dedicated teams to prevent them as much as possible. And yet even the most well-prepared, best practice-driven, and finest mission-oriented nonprofits are not immune. News of misconduct at community foundations, cover-ups of abuse within religious denominations, and accusations of misuse of donor funds at service organizations has risen to the surface in the past several years alone.
