Matt has been the Communications Director at The American School in Japan (ASIJ) for 17 years and has lived in Japan for 25 years. In 2019, ASIJ became the first school in the world to receive Level 2 Certification from Keeping Children Safe. This recognised the extensive work done by the school, its Board, Safeguarding Coordinator and the Communications Team in moving the school from dealing with disclosures of historical abuse to robust safeguarding practices embedded throughout the institution. Matt is originally from the UK and previously worked in magazine publishing and as a freelance writer for publications in Japan, Australia and the United States.
