Pipeline Development is Lead Generation: A Scalable Qualification Program
Come learn about UC Berkeley's Pipeline Development Program and how we're growing our pipeline with two lead generation strategies; Discovery Journeys and the Bubble Up Initiative. These innovative programs offer a new approach to identifying and qualifying prospects by blending traditional frontline efforts with mass communication outreach strategies.
These programs streamline prospect qualification and deliver warm, vetted prospects to Gift Officers. This allows Gift Officers to spend more time building relationships and making the ask, and less time doing cold outreach. This reallocation of resources will empower your advancement department to reach thousands more prospects per year.

From Clicks to Community: The Power of CSUSB’s Social Media Story
At CSUSB, we take great pride in our approach to social media, ensuring authenticity and fidelity to our institution's identity through the display of "Coyote Pride." Our commitment to authenticity is a defining factor that distinguishes us from other universities. Our social media voice is thoughtfully crafted to resonate not only with our esteemed faculty but also with our valued students and alumni, fostering a strong sense of connection and identification within our university community.
This commitment to authenticity is more than a branding strategy, it is a promise to our audience….A promise built on trust among our followers. Our goal is to have prospective students and all stakeholder groups be drawn to CSUSB, not be slick marketing tactics seen elsewhere, but by genuine interactions through each and every post. In this digital age, CSUSB is setting out to prove that ‘authenticity’ is not a liability but in fact, a powerful magnet for attracting CSUSB stakeholders who seek real connections and meaningful experiences. By accomplishing this, the social media team hopes to paint a vibrant picture of the CSUSB spirit for all to see.

More recently, the Brown Advancement team instituted an Anti-Racism program for the whole division; a first of its kind. Building a Case for Engagement - What's Your Shift?
In September 2022, the University of British Columbia launched its latest campaign, FORWARD, the campaign for UBC, with the goal of raising $3billion and doubling alumni engagement. This marked the second campaign for UBC with an alumni engagement goal attached. To help develop the engagement goals, we worked with a series of stakeholders to create a Case for Engagement to mirror our Development team's Case for Support. This Case for Engagement provided the basis for not only UBC’s Campaign framework, but also for our new strategic plan. To get there, we had to figure out where we were, where we wanted to go as an organization, and why. In this session, we will share how we came up with our Case for Engagement as well as walk you through our “shift exercise” process to help identify where your organization is today and the shift you might want to make to achieve your goals.
Speakers: Dianna DeBlaere, Senior Director, Alumni Engagement and Operations, alumni UBC, The University of British Columbia, Steve Kennedy, Senior Director, Marketing and Communications, alumni UBC, The University of British Columbia, Michael Selby, Manager, Alumni Operations and Data, alumni UBC, The University of British Columbia

When Tragedy Strikes: Communicating Through a Crisis on Campus
In the spring of 2023, the peaceful college town of Davis, California was shaken by a series of violent stabbing attacks. Two people died, including a University of California, Davis student, and one was severely injured. The suspect arrested for the attacks was a recently separated UC Davis student.
In this talk I will discuss how UC Davis’ communications team responded to these events. Over more than a week of frenetic activity, our communications involved many levels, from the immediate needs of a shocked and grieving community to dealing with attention from national and international media. The work is still ongoing as the campus recovers and the legal process moves forward.
