Restless Dreamers is a series of portraits of undocumented students that accompanied a feature story in the University magazine, Chico Statements. Using strategic lighting and other creative elements, the resulting photos help tell these students’ story in a visual, genuine, and compelling way as part of a larger effort to shine a spotlight on the impacts of national policy within our campus community and add perspective to the national conversation on immigration at large.

We fell in love with the dreamers. Some felt a Star Trek bent, but others saw the night sky and the future dreams of these portrait subjects. Dramatic and a bold portrayal with the contrast and backlighting. Not perfection technically, but the raw power of the concept really comes through.
