The Office of Strategic Communications' photography unit creates imagery for a vast number of projects, including the university magazine, Terp; daily news site, Maryland Today; university website; and many digital and print publications spanning admissions to the Alumni Association. Together, these are critical in telling the University of Maryland story, and connecting our students, alumni, and friends.
From the Judges
This award submission is a solid representative of a strong portfolio, with its impressive range of visual variety. The photographs brought you into campus life, and \we were pleased that they were able to get to know the university through the different sides of the campus that were depicted. One of our favorite photos was “Unlocking the Door to (Job) Opportunity.” The light and the expression from the student are spot on. This collection provided more than one would expect, as the images aren’t all COVID-19 related, which would have been easy to do with a 2020 portfolio. Overall, there was some very creative and unique work among the entries, but for the Platinum Award winner, we were looking for authentic, well-crafted imagery that displayed a range of photographic skill. The past year was challenging for everyone, including university photographers, and it's refreshing to see that many were still able to create engaging work despite the pandemic.
