CASE Announces Inaugural U.S./Canada Council

July 2, 2020

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is proud to announce the inaugural members of the organization’s first CASE Council for U.S./Canada.

In 2019, CASE members globally approved a new volunteer leadership structure that established the U.S./Canada Council as well as regional councils in each of the organization’s other regions: Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Latin America. The U.S./Canada Council will set strategy, advise on member growth and retention opportunities, and ensure that CASE’s programs, products, and services continue to meet the needs of members within the region.

Sergio Gonzalez, senior vice president of advancement at Brown University, will serve as the first chair of the Council. Gonzalez has served on the CASE Board of Trustees since 2011, most recently as the Board treasurer, and is also a member of the CASE Trustee Pandemic Response taskforce. He is a former member of the CASE Commission on Philanthropy, the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, and the Global Governance Steering Committee.

“I am honored and excited to work with a talented group of colleagues on the Council to ensure that CASE continues to do the important work that enhances the profession that we all love,” Gonzalez says.

Gonzalez will serve as chair of the U.S./Canada Council until July 1, 2021.

“The creation of the U.S./Canada Council marks an important moment for CASE. With its focus on the unique needs for this region, the Council will provide a mechanism for programmatic and service guidance for this diverse membership body,” says Sue Cunningham, president and CEO. “I am grateful to Sergio Gonzalez for leading the group at the outset, and to the talented volunteers who will serve. It is an exciting start for the Council, charged with ensuring the region is well served while also benefitting from the close relationships members in the U.S. and Canada have with our other regions in Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific.”

Also selected to serve on the CASE U.S./Canada Council are:

  • Gordon Arbeau (Vice Chair), Associate Vice-President, Advancement and External Relations, Brock University
  • Thomas Bonner, Vice President, External Relations, Carleton College
  • Brian Bowman, Director, Alumni & Development, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology
  • John Dowd, CEO, The Citadel Foundation & Vice President, Institutional Advancement, The Citadel
  • Lisa Gibert, CEO, Clark College Foundation, Clark College
  • Brian Hargrove, Head of School, Northfield Mount Hermon School
  • Brian Hastings, President and CEO, University of Nebraska Foundation
  • Jennifer Heisey, Vice President, Alumni & Donor Experience, University of Cincinnati Foundation
  • Emilie Henry, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, The Westminster Schools
  • Donna MacPhee, Vice President, Alumni Relations, Columbia University
  • Margene Mastin-Schepps, Executive Director, Marketing & Creative Services, University of California, Riverside
  • Linda McIntosh, Managing Director, Development Information Strategies, Harvard Business School
  • Gillian Morrison, Assistant Vice-President, Divisional Relations & Campaigns, University of Toronto
  • Gregory Perrin, Associate Vice President for Development, St. Edward's University
  • Vita Pickrum, Vice President, Institutional Advancement & President, Foundation, Delaware State University
  • Paul Rucker, Vice President, Alumni & Stakeholder Engagement, University of Washington

CASE staff members Sue Cunningham and Beth Smith, executive director for U.S./Canada, will serve as ex officio members of the Council.
