New in 2026

Starting in 2026, institution names will be displayed alongside their data in the shared benchmarking on the CASE Insights portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

CASE is making this change in response to member feedback, to provide participants with important context for interpreting data, to encourage collaboration among institutions, to provide more robust benchmarking, and to align this survey with the practice across our other CASE surveys.

We will share institutions’ names with their corresponding data beginning with the 2026 survey that opens late June 2026 and measures fiscal year performance.

  • It enables institutions to pick preferred institutions to benchmark against.
  • Knowing which institutions are represented will help institutions better understand trends.
  • It enables networking and sharing of strategies with peers.
  • It unlocks benchmarking functionality in the new survey system for more customized peer comparison selection and reporting.

Only participating institutions will have access to the named data.

While we hope you will find this change beneficial, if you have concerns, we welcome your comments. Contact [email protected] to speak with our team about the changes.

No. The data submission process remains the same. The only change is that your institution’s name will appear alongside its data when it is shared with survey participants in the CASE Insights portal.

Log in at https://insightsdata.case.org/, click on the “Resources” tab, and on the next page select “CASE Insights on Philanthropy (Canada)”. There you will find two Excel files containing the full datasets for FY’24 and FY’25. If you have additional questions, please contact CASE Insights.

New Survey Platform

For the third year, CASE Insights on Philanthropy (Canada), in partnership with CCAE, will be administered on a new survey platform located at https://insightsdata.case.org/. See Resources below for an updated guidance document, PDFs with the survey questions, and data collection excel file for 2026.

The order and layout of the survey sections has remained the same.

The survey website continues to offer key features, including checkboxes to indicate participation and survey completion, manual and automatic error checks, and the ability to generate a PDF copy of your survey.

Additional functionality includes viewing open surveys and deadlines from the home page when logged in and, seeing an approved extension deadline as your official deadline.

For assistance, contact the CASE Insights on Philanthropy (Canada) staff at [email protected].

How to Participate

The Canadian philanthropy survey must be completed and submitted via the CASE Insights survey website. Once you receive your login, you can begin the survey. The getting started document provides an overview of the CASE Insights survey site functionality. There are also three documents to assist with survey completion: a PDF of the survey questions, the survey Guidance Document, and an Excel Survey Data Collection Form for use in assembling data prior to entering it in the online survey. While all data submitted on the CASE Insights survey site will be stored for future access, saving data in the Excel survey data collection form can serve as a backup for your reference.

Before submitting responses, we ask that your institution’s senior most Advancement Professional/Chief Advancement Officer reviews and signs off on reported data. Participants are also asked to sign a Data Sharing Agreement (DSA).  The DSA is in place to ensure that others do not share results outside of their institution and guarantees that results are only used for benchmarking purposes.

CASE will review all data query participants to correct potential errors before reporting findings and making data available to participants in the survey report, and in individualized reports.

All survey participants will receive a complimentary summary benchmarking report presenting data on 5 key variables and a PDF report of aggregate findings.  Survey participants can also order a strategic benchmarking report presenting data for their institution and a group of 5-10 peers from within the survey population. The highly interactive HTML file presents data on 15 variables and enables users to change chart views, review underlying chart data, and download charts for use in presentations. Strategic benchmarking reports include a 30-minute call to preview data and a one hour "Review Call" in which an which a CASE Insights team member walks the client and their team through the full report, identifying strategic questions and insights for discussion.  If you are interested in learning more about strategic benchmarking reports please email [email protected].
