Faculty Chair

Martyn Edwards
Martyn provides strategic and operational leadership for the University’s marketing, communications, student recruitment and development activity with responsibility for around 200 staff in the Marketing & Advancement Directorate.
Prior to joining Loughborough, Martyn has held a number of senior recruitment and marketing roles across different organisations within the HE sector including the British Council, University of Nottingham and IDP Education. More recently he was Interim Director of Marketing, Recruitment and International at Swansea University.
Martyn is a graduate of Cardiff University with a bachelor degree in English and a Masters in Strategic Marketing, he also holds a postgraduate qualification from the University of Manchester. He is a former Vice-Chair of the British Universities International Liaison Association (BUILA) and of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Higher Education Special Interest Group.
Martyn is a current member of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global Advisory Committee and also sits on the District Cabinet UK and Ireland for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Michelle Amos
Michelle is a skilled marketing leader with over twenty years of experience in strategic marketing, event management and business development. Currently working as the Deputy Director Marketing, Brand and Digital at the University of Salford, she has responsibility for developing comprehensive marketing strategies and oversees digital media, creative services, recruitment marketing and champions the university’s brand. Michelle holds a Chartered Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB). She is also a dedicated trustee and director for the Blackpool Grand Theatre.

Raman Sarpal
Raman brings a wealth of experience from her 25 years in Marketing, Communications and Brand Management roles in a variety of private and public sector organisations.
Raman started her career in universities as a fresh-faced and keen graduate at the University of Liverpool before going on to hold marketing positions for The Drum Arts Centre, Black Country Chamber of Commerce, West Midlands Regional Development Agency and Growth Hub before taking on the Head of Marketing role at the University of Wolverhampton – looking after student recruitment, marketing, international recruitment and research marketing. During her 13-year tenure, Raman was instrumental in growing student numbers and the university brand as well as mobilising the £60m Springfield Campus.
Since then, Raman has held a senior marketing role at Student Roost, working with a national network of 100 university clients and now has returned to her passion of building university brands and student recruitment in her role as Deputy Director at Anglia Ruskin University.

Jason Yip
Jason has over 25 years of experience in digital marketing and communications across the public and private sectors, including roles with NewcastleGateshead Initiative, multiple design and digital agencies, and both universities in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). He is the Head of Marketing Web, CRM and Analytics at Newcastle University (Russell Group) and has also held a senior leadership role at Northumbria University (Modern University), leading strategic digital transformation initiatives across both institutions.
With more than 12 years of senior-level experience in Higher Education, Jason has directed specialist teams across all digital channels, including CRM, social media, and web/app development. He has delivered nationally recognised and award-winning digital marketing projects, such as NewcastleGateshead.com, which was voted the world’s “Coolest Tourism Website” by The Sunday Times; Geordieland, an innovative real-time social media map of Newcastle; and NU World, a bespoke virtual-experience platform for Northumbria University. His work in marketing technology innovation earned him recognition as a “Change Ambassador” by The Economist in 2013.
Since 2022, Jason has served annually as a judge for the North East Marketing Awards, Prolific North Marketing Awards, and Northern Digital Awards in the UK, regularly reviewing and critiquing award-winning submissions from leading agencies and digital specialists, an experience he finds both humbling and inspiring.
Alongside his professional work, Jason is a respected Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) tutor, delivering the CIM Level 6 Specialist Award in AI Marketing to professionals across industries, including finance, retail, healthcare, and sectors beyond Higher Education.
