Reporting, Prospect Pipelines, and Stewardship During a Campaign
Running a comprehensive campaign of any size requires both creativity and course correction. Even with the best impact goals and campaign design materials, a campaign can quickly derail or wander from its path if it is not supported by accessible and digestible reporting, a plan for regularly revisiting and adjusting prospect pipeline and engagement strategies, and stewarding donors both during and post-campaign through meaningful recognition and follow up. This session will examine these three foundations of a successful campaign--reporting, prospect engagement, and stewardship--using insight from the Lawrenceville School's historic $400MM+ campaign.

Working the School Beat: News-Reporting Tactics To Boost Marketing & Stewardship
For school communicators, one of the greatest lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic is that we must maintain strong relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, and alumni to produce impactful storytelling. We can do this by employing journalism-inspired tactics - learning about our school beat, making connections with our sources, and nurturing relationships that will help us get the scoop. In this session, participants will see how these tactics are applied at an independent school and come away with next-day strategies for their institutions.

Celebrating 125 Years
In 2022, Calvert began its official 125th anniversary celebration. To honor our history, the planning for this momentous occasion started in 2017 and culminated with a two-year, $16 million capital campaign and various special events and creative programs and digital assets. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we were able to stay on track through our strategic planning, supportive leadership, and committed community of donors and volunteers. This session will share our how-to planning and research as well as the timeline and a detailed account of the activities. We will also cover lessons learned, and a 20/20 debrief looking back on our ambitious initiative.

Head of School Transitions: Opportunity in Turbulence
Opportunity abounds when there is transition in the corner office at independent school. The chance to bid farewell to an outgoing head of school is an opportunity for engaging current and past VIPs, for a community to celebrate the accomplishments of an era, and - via fundraising - for the creation of a lasting legacy to someone who has carried the organization forward. Along a parallel track, the announcement and arrival of a new head is a chance to nurture key donor relationships, to piggyback special events and fundraising appeals on the excitement that corresponds with new leadership and, if needed, to reset the orientation between a head of school and its development program.Of course none of these opportunities happen without thorough planning and coordination between development leadership, the incoming and outgoing heads of school, the Board, and the administration.

Closing Keynote: Talent in a Post-Pandemic World
The talent game has changed. Pre-COVID, the answers to our challenges were difficult, but for the most part tangible. Today demand and supply of talent remains a challenge, but there are more caveats—diversity in an arena where we have little, culture when we work in different places, remote leadership when you have never done so before, all the while facing escalating fundraising deliverables. Come learn how the best of the past can help us create new solutions for our new reality.
Speakers: Tahsin Alam, Associate Dean for Advancement, Foster School of Business, University of Washington
