Mike Barzacchini

Mike Barzacchini

Crystal Apple Winner
Director, Marketing Services, Harper College

Mike Barzacchini has worked in marketing communication and public relations for more than 25 years and has served as a CASE volunteer in various capacities more about 15 years. For the past 22 years, he has served as director of the Marketing Services Department at Harper College, where he developed Harper's first branding campaign and leads the college's integrated marketing, web, and social media initiatives.

Along with his higher education experience, Barzacchini has developed communication campaigns for healthcare providers, state government agencies, manufacturers and consumer service companies. Whether delivering a workshop, writing copy for a direct marketing project or planning a campaign, his work is guided by the following three principles: access, usability and relevance.

Carrie Phillips

Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, University of Arkansas Little Rock

Carrie Phillips, Ed.D., APR is the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at UA Little Rock. She is part creative, part analyst, and fully curious when it comes to solving higher education’s biggest challenges. With more than 15 years of experience, she has led efforts that have driven measurable results—from reversing a 13-year enrollment decline to launching a $250 million capital campaign and increasing national visibility through faculty storytelling. Her leadership centers on building brand and departmental culture, and her teams have earned national and global recognition.

A national thought-leader and speaker, she has worked with CASE, AMA, and Digital Collegium, and PRSA in support of higher education. She earned her doctorate from Texas Tech University, studying how universities can use marketing to mitigate the enrollment cliff, and continues to explore the intersection of leadership and higher ed at andcarrieon.com

Tracy Clemons

Tracy Clemons

Interim Vice President for Marketing and Communications, Texas Southern University 

Tracy Clemons is a former journalist, but a forever storyteller. He currently serves as the Interim Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Texas Southern University. In this role, Tracy is the University’s primary spokesperson, and he oversees media relations, social media, internal and external communications, and all marketing efforts on behalf of the University. He came to TSU from the broadcast news industry. He was a reporter and fill-in anchor at ABC13 in Houston. Prior to returning to the Bayou City to work for TSU in 2022, he anchored the top-rated morning newscast in Greensboro, North Carolina. His journalism journey has spanned reporter and anchor roles in St. Louis, Shreveport, Louisiana, and Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition, he served as the Press Secretary of the Houston Independent School District. He’s also taught the next generation of journalists as an adjunct professor at North Carolina A&T State University, the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and Texas Southern. Tracy is from Chesapeake, Virginia right next door to Virginia Beach. He's a proud graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was the university mascot and a founding member of the marching band. He also earned a master’s degree from the University of Maryland. He’s married to Dr. Jessyca Clemons, and they have two sons: Tracy III and Preston. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Alice Maxwell

Alice Maxwell

Senior Director of Marketing and Communications in the Division of Student Affairs, Florida State University 

Alice Maxwell serves as the Florida State University Senior Director of Marketing and Communications in the Division of Student Affairs. She is skilled in leading an award-winning creative team, managing multiple mission-focused marketing projects, developing and executing integrated marketing and communications campaigns, helping constituents adapt through change management, keeping colleagues informed and inspired through internal communications and growing awareness through public relations. Prior to arriving at Florida State in 2021, Alice worked as a director in community college strategic communications, integrated marketing and change management. She has also worked in communications at private university, Drury University, where she earned a master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications.
