Insight led success: Imperial and LSE share some insights and learnings across regular, mid-level and legacy giving

It can often feel that regular giving and legacies are low on the list of priorities for your institution, even though we all know the long-term benefits and income that can be raised through these programmes. The CASE-More UK Philanthropy Report released in August 2023 identified regular giving and legacies as key areas for growth and investment. Activities led by data insights and research are key to successful relationship building with our donors which in turn leads to income and increased awareness of these important areas of fundraising. This session will share insights and learnings from Imperial and LSE to help you think about how you can delve deeper into your own data with some tips on gathering some of these insights without the support of external help.
Speakers: Anna Wall, Head of Regular Giving and Legacy Giving, Imperial College London, Emma Simpson, Head of Regular Giving, London School of Economics, Rosie Dale, Partner, More Partnership

Elective session- Giving Days: When to embed them as a permanent feature in your regular giving programme and how to keep them fresh

London Business School has been running annual Giving Days since 2016 – but this academic year, it’s missing from their calendar. Why? In this session, you’ll learn more about what to do once you’ve started including giving days in your appeals calendar, how to keep them fresh over time, and when to stop doing them. Anna Diehm, Head of Annual Giving at LBS, will be able to share how their long-standing giving day has impacted donor behaviour, how it has helped them with internal stakeholders, and what giving days are not able to deliver for them.
Speakers: Anna Diehm, Head of Annual Giving, London Business School
3:45 PM - 4:45 PM GMT

Elective session- “Like a box of chocolates:” Building a case for support for unrestricted legacy pledges.

A case for support for unrestricted legacy giving is the golden snitch of any legacy programme, and in this session I will break down the “chocolate box” strategy. At its heart, this is a supporter-centred approach, with multiple cases for support to appeal to different audiences, but all (hopefully) leading to an unrestricted legacy pledge. I will discuss: • Examples of different audiences and the “hooks” to pledging an unrestricted gift. • Tools of the trade, with this multi-audience approach we work with our budget and wider team to think • creatively on engaging these groups. • The specific challenges and opportunities that University/ Higher Education institutions face when crafting a case for support. • The vitality of stewardship in unrestricted legacy pledges.
Speakers: Mary Taylor Lewis, Legacy and In-Memory Giving Manager, University of York
