Conversation with Philanthropists Irwin Jacobs and Adam Jacobs

Join us for an inspirational session featuring Irwin Jacobs, the visionary co-founder and former Chairman of Qualcomm, Inc. Renowned for his unparalleled expertise in technology and innovation, Mr. Jacobs embodies the essence of visionary entrepreneurship and civic leadership. Mr. Jacobs will be joined by his grandson Adam Jacobs, a San Diego civic and business leader. In this session, the Jacobs will share invaluable insights gleaned from their life-long commitment to the public good and causes. As a family known for their imaginative power to leverage transformative giving to drive societal change, Irwin and his late wife Joan’s enduring values are embraced across family generations. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of the foremost philanthropic minds of our time and be inspired by how family values and civic association unlock transformational philanthropy in society.
Speakers: Armin Afsahi, Vice President for Advancement, University of Chicago

Putting It All Together and Final Thoughts

In this session, attendees will work in small groups with transformational gift scenarios inspired by today's philanthropist conversation to apply the concepts learned in earlier sessions. As with much of our work in institutional advancement, we know there are multiple approaches that any gift officer might take. Small groups will work through preparing an action plan for their scenarios that they hope will lead to a successful gift outcome. Groups will also identify any potential pitfalls and then share their recommendations and findings among the larger group. We’ll then conclude with the faculty leadership sharing some of their final thoughts and recommended next steps as you go back to your institutions.
Speakers: Armin Afsahi, Vice President for Advancement, University of Chicago, Brandon Buzbee, Vice President for University Advancement, University of North Texas, Lindsay Cameron, Senior Director of Gift Planning, University of Colorado Boulder, Jamie McMahon, Chief Executive Officer, Foundation, Community College of Allegheny County, Zachary Smith, Associate Vice Chancellor for Leadership Strategy and Engagement, University of California San Diego
