Session 5 - Data, Insights, and the Metrics that Matter
Building on the previous sessions, this session explores the core questions leaders in alumni relations, development, communications and marketing should be asking - questions that are relevant at every career stage. Understanding the constraints and opportunities shaping your function helps you prioritise amid increasing pressures, including shrinking budgets, and clarify what success really looks like in your context. Success is situational: while benchmarks and metrics (including those from CASE) are valuable, not all will resonate with colleagues who may lack the same context or perspective. Recognising this is key to telling a compelling story about your work and your team’s impact. This session offers practical examples and approaches to identifying priorities, using data effectively, and communicating value with confidence. It emphasises the importance of context‑specific measures of success, while still enabling meaningful benchmarking through thoughtful data collection and the use of appropriate indicators.
