For more than six decades, the Gottwald family has demonstrated extraordinary service and generosity to the University of Richmond. The vision and leadership of the late F. Dewey Gottwald Sr. and his son, the late Floyd Gottwald Jr., were vital in establishing the university's Gottwald Center for the Sciences and growing it into a premier space for learning and research. Together, the Herndon Foundation and the Gottwald family have partnered to support endowed student scholarship and fellowship funds in the sciences and in business, as well as endowed faculty positions in chemistry. During a special gathering with the family, President Kevin Hallock presented the family with a custom hardcover impact book, created by UR’s Advancement Office, as a token of tremendous gratitude for all that they've done. The book chronicles in detail their legacy of giving across campus and demonstrates the far-reaching impact of their generosity through compelling stories, quotes, and images featuring Spider students, alumni, faculty, staff, and key university leaders.

This was a great showcase of highly personalized content on a small budget. The family was clearly impressed, given that they requested additional copies, and the book really emphasized their impact on the university. Judges felt confident that this was a perfect example of donor stewardship that will continue to pay dividends.
