Student Scholars Day
From the Nominator
Rather than simply documenting poster sessions on Student Scholars Day, we created portraiture to humanize advanced scholarship and elevate student researchers as institutional ambassadors. To achieve this, we invited selected participants into the University Communications studio before Student Scholars Day. Biomedical sciences major Lilly Helsel became a signature visual for the campaign. Using a graduated cylinder and controlled lighting, photographer Cory Morse captured Helsel's reflection in glass—an effect that symbolized inquiry, self-discovery, and scientific rigor. This portrait was part of an integrated storytelling package that combined long-form profiles with event coverage.
