State of Mind
From the Nominator
The University of California, Los Angeles' UCLA College created its State of Mind online magazine to spotlight the research, ideas, creativity and impact of our community. By featuring faculty expertise alongside student research, we aim to show how mentorship, collaboration, and curiosity drive progress on campus and beyond. A five-person communications team created a variety of pieces, including student profiles, a quantum explainer video built around a doctoral student, a video and profile about the alumnus creator of a perfume company, a long-form video and Q&A with a professor who studies friendship, a podcast featuring interviews with brain and mind researchers, and a profile of a humanities professor studying language and reality. In creative and fun ways, State of Mind captures the intellectual energy of our community and demonstrates how sharing ideas can inspire action and change.
From the Judges
This magazine did a good job of breaking up its stories with interesting visuals and presenting its complicated scientific subject matter in a way that made it understandable to a general audience.
