"Roots of Resilience" is a long-form narrative from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. Written for alumni, prospective students, educators, and the broader public, the piece reflects the school’s commitment to its community and K–12 partnerships. The story centers on a university-led initiative that emerged after hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted coastal North Carolina communities. The narrative guides readers from ecosystem recovery to middle school students exploring resilience through storytelling and creative work.
