Ranking Announcement Video
From the Nominator
In The Wall Street Journal, Bowling Green State University was named the No. 1 public university in Ohio and among the top five in the nation for the sixth consecutive year in a ranking of public universities students say they would choose again. Based on these rankings, the Marketing and Brand Strategy team created a short promotional video for social media audiences. Rather than presenting the ranking through a traditional graphic or announcement, the team developed a 30-second video inspired by a viral dance popularized by the girl group KATSEYE in a GAP commercial featuring the song "Milkshake" by Kelis. The goal was to share the achievement in a way that reflective of the BGSU community. Instead of using professional dancers, the video features students, athletes, and campus personalities performing the dance across campus. Participants included the cheer and dance teams; Freddie and Frieda Falcon with SICSIC (a secret spirit crew); the Falcon Marching Band; nursing students; football players, including campus influencer Finn Hogan; head football coach Eddie George; the athletic director; and viral campus personality Pudge the Cat with his owner George Carlson. Filming took place in prominent campus locations to showcase the university experience. The 30-second video generated 951,761 views and 103,318 engagements across social media platforms. It also won three American Advertising Federation of Toledo ADDY Awards and was liked by Kelis, the original artist of "Milkshake."
