Radical Transparency: Weekly Video Storytelling During Campus Development
From the Nominator
During a major campus program to build a new sports center, the United Nations International School of Hanoi faced a familiar challenge in education: how to maintain trust, clarity, and community confidence during prolonged physical disruption. Rather than relying on sporadic written updates, the school launched a series of short weekly video updates that provided transparent, human-centered communication throughout the construction period. The primary audiences were parents, students, faculty, staff, and alumni, many of whom were directly impacted by the noise and changes to access, safety procedures, and learning environments. The goal was to reduce uncertainty, prevent misinformation, and actively engage the community as partners in the development process, rather than passive recipients of change. Each video was recorded on campus and focused on progress updates, upcoming changes, safety considerations, and the educational purpose behind design decisions. By maintaining a regular weekly cadence through the initiative, the school prioritized visibility and reinforced trust through consistency, instead of reacting only when issues arose. The impact was immediate. Engagement levels remained high throughout the project, informal feedback reflected increased understanding and reassurance, and the school experienced fewer reactive concerns than in previous development phases. Most importantly, the videos reframed campus development as a shared journey aligned with the school’s mission and long-term vision. This initiative demonstrates how proactive, low-cost video communications can transform institutional change into a moment of connection and leadership presence.
