Putting Women's Health in the Spotlight
From the Nominator
This feature article was written to highlight a new research focus on women’s biology and health at the University of Cambridge. The initiative aims to address the alarming lack of understanding of many women’s health conditions and how to treat them effectively. In addition, the article helped promote the Development Office's efforts to make women’s health a high priority for philanthropic fundraising. To identify the most appropriate researchers for a rounded and compelling article, the writer attended an afternoon of talks by members of the research network, then separately interviewed four of these people to capture quotes about their aims. The writer highlighted a surprising diversity of topics involved in understanding women’s health. The article was published on the university’s website in July 2025 with multiple aims: to showcase the university’s expertise in this area to the public, policymakers, funding bodies, and potential industry partners; to promote new collaborations between Cambridge researchers across subject boundaries; and to attract external research collaborators. The article also appeared in e-newsletters and social media and has now been viewed more than 4,000 times.
From the Judges
The judges thought the subject was handled carefully and thoroughly. The research (and the gap in research) was the focal point of the piece, which felt comprehensive. A very important piece that was delivered well.
