OSUF Loyal: Embedding Philanthropy Into Foundation Culture
From the Nominator
OSUF Loyal is an initiative for Oregon State University Foundation employees. Developed as a foundation-specific extension of the broader OSU Loyal employee philanthropy program, OSUF Loyal aims to strengthen the culture of generosity within the foundation. Rather than relying on a traditional employee-giving campaign, OSUF Loyal integrates recognition, community, and experiences throughout the year. Activities included campus activities, a matching challenge by OSUF Loyal committee chairs, and the inaugural “12 Days of Giving” candy-gram campaign. Through this campaign, colleagues could make a modest gift in exchange for sending a message of appreciation and a candy cane to a fellow employee. This resulted in more than 1,000 messages of gratitude and approximately $6,000 in philanthropic support. OSUF Loyal had a 100% participation rate among foundation employees in 2025.
From the Judges
This creative initiative demonstrates how a simple, low-barrier approach can drive exceptional participation and foster a culture of philanthropy from within. The candy gram concept is both fun and meaningful, encouraging peer-to-peer recognition, and the 100% employee giving rate is impressive. With its strong results, ease of implementation, and adaptability, this program offers a compelling model for institutions seeking to build internal engagement and enthusiasm around giving.
