Bloom: The Bryn Mawr School Admissions Magazine
From the Nominator
Bloom is Bryn Mawr’s signature admissions magazine designed for our most influential audience: our applicants (girls aged 5 to 14). While most school admissions materials target parents, Bloom recognizes that students hold significant decision-making power in the school search process. Our mission is to ensure that while parents value our academic rigor, the girls themselves are captivated by our joyful community. The publication title “stems” from the school's emblematic daisy, symbolizing growth and personal development. Published twice annually to align with the admissions cycle, Bloom moves beyond traditional marketing by offering a vibrant, engaging experience for young readers. The content is curated to be energetic and accessible, featuring advice columns, interactive activities, "What’s in Your Backpack" spreads, and student-led polls. Whether a girl identifies as an athlete, a poet, a scientist, or all three, Bloom illustrates diverse pathways to success at Bryn Mawr. The results have been transformative. By shifting the focus to student joy and engagement, the magazine has generated significant word-of-mouth. It serves as a tangible touchpoint that parents describe as “girl power in print,” successfully building an emotional connection with prospective families before they even step foot on campus. We distribute the publication to prospective and current students, faculty, and admissions feeder schools.
From the Judges
Any cover that encourages readers to ask questions and seek stories is very effective, and Bloom does this. Judges also appreciated the stories and imagery crafted specifically for students. Very well done. Great work!
