9th Annual Leadership Giving Society Gala: Light the Dream
From the Nominator
As guests arrived at the ninth annual Leadership Giving Society Gala, Light the Dream, they passed through a luminous archway of neon light, stepping from the ordinary into a vivid expression of the university’s future. Designed for UC Davis’ most committed philanthropists--donors whose cumulative giving exceeds $50,000--the evening aligned with Foundation Board meetings to bring together donors, faculty, students, and institutional leaders. Inside, vibrant color, sculptural light, and a live harp performance by UC Davis alumna GEO created an atmosphere that felt both celebratory and deeply intentional. A custom neon focal sign, drawn directly from the invitation design and suspended above the central bar, anchored the space. Rather than centering the evening on a traditional stage program, the experience invited guests to explore. Faculty and students hosted a series of impact environments representing Advancing Health for All, Seeding Innovation, Restoring Abilities, and Nourishing the World. Illuminated neon towers and layered color guided movement through the space. Formal remarks were intentionally brief to preserve time for genuine connection. Throughout the reception, food stations became active stages where campus culinary professionals prepared dishes before guests. Bright red and orange peppers appeared within striking floral décor, visually tying the kitchen activity to the surrounding environment. The result was an integrated atmosphere that honored the university’s agricultural roots while blending flavor, artistry, and environment into one seamless experience.
From the Judges

The “message from the future” concept was especially memorable, and the overall production supported a clear, emotionally resonant narrative. Judges viewed it as a strong example of how to deepen donor connection through thoughtful event design.
