One Day College
From the Nominator
In today’s polarized political climate, the One Day College educational event offered diverse and inclusive perspectives on the 2024 presidential election cycle to Dartmouth alumni. Our goal was to offer alumni both critical insights into the election and inspiration to pursue further learning. The program empowered participants to engage deeply with the topics that mattered most to them, sparking curiosity that opened their minds and motivated them to conduct their own research, so they were informed citizens and voters. The event responded directly to our alumni’s strong interest in lifelong learning and desire for expert guidance on navigating complex, timely issues. By showcasing Dartmouth faculty from various disciplines, we created an experience that felt like a classroom seminar while fostering thoughtful political dialogue. Held live via Zoom, the event featured five sessions on key domestic and international policy topics relevant to the presidential election such as the economics of immigration, foreign policy, misinformation, and artificial intelligence. Dartmouth faculty from engineering, government, sociology, economics, law, and political science led each 45-minute lecture, followed by a 30-minute question and answer and discussion. The event successfully held participants’ attention, with many attending the full day of classes from 10 am to 4 pm. Event evaluations show high participant satisfaction, with 93% rating their experience as "excellent" or "very good" and a 76% promoter score. Additionally, 93% expressed interest in attending a future One Day College.
