Omnia Magazine
From the Nominator
Omnia is the magazine for alumni of the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts & Sciences, including undergraduate alums of the college, as well as alums of the graduate division and the College of Liberal and Professional Studies. A small group of in-house writers, editors, and designers puts out two print issues (64 pages each) every year, with a distribution of more than 110,000. The magazine’s mission is to represent the breadth, relevance, and impact of the liberal arts at Penn. Stories profile leading faculty, connect the work of our experts with current issues, and make specialized scholarship more accessible to general readers. The magazine also offers general School news and short student profiles. We constantly strive to stay relevant and timely in responding to issues affecting every aspect of our community. In addition to an emphasis on strong writing, the Omnia team focuses on fresh art direction, including heavy use of original illustration. The magazine’s tagline, “All Things Penn Arts & Sciences,” plays on the range of topics it covers and also alludes to a quote by Penn’s founder Benjamin Franklin that the institution should educate its students in “all things useful and ornamental.” Omnia is edited and designed in-house by a small group, one of many responsibilities each team member handles. Freelance writers contribute about half of the writing.
