The Meliora Collective University-Wide Mentorship Program
From the Nominator
The University of Rochester’s Office of Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement launched The Meliora Collective’s University-Wide Mentorship Program in 2020. Initially created during the pandemic to connect students, alumni, parents, and faculty during isolation, it now celebrates its milestone fifth year as one of our strongest signature programs. The program fosters career guidance and personal and professional development for students and alumni--all through 600+ alumni volunteers annually. Since its inception, the program has connected more than 6,000 students, alumni, and constituents in 1:1 mentorship. Our alumni volunteer mentors, through a personalized matching process, provide invaluable industry insights and career advice during the three-month program. The Meliora Collective Mentorship Program aligns with the University of Rochester's strategic plan, “Boundless Possibility.” The result has been a connected, engaged, and collaborative community that enhances the student-life experience. With fall and spring cycles, the program continues to build strong university affinity among participants. A testament to the program’s success, 70% of our mentors return for subsequent cycles, and several mentees have become mentors. Moreover, 54% of mentors have volunteered for other opportunities, and 52% have made at least one gift since 2020, underscoring that alumni who volunteer feel a deeper connection to the university and are more likely to give.
