Letters & Science Magazine
From the Nominator
The purpose of the newly launched Letters & Science magazine is twofold. First, it is meant to communicate the power and impact of research and thought leadership that exists at the College of Letters and Science at University of California, Davis. To maximize results in this effort, we share our content through organically grown social media channels and targeted digital placement to affinity audiences. These efforts are unpaid and highly successful. The second reason for launching this new magazine is to create a holistic understanding of the scope of excellence at L&S, providing a singular brand—a flag under which knowledge seekers can gather. Until a few years ago, L&S was known only by its three divisions: Arts and Humanities, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. The words "College of Letters and Science" existed only on an organization chart and many alumni didn't know the source of their degree. As such, we needed to focus on building a brand. The magazine serves as a mouthpiece that shows the powerful mosaic created by these three divisions working in tandem. To summarize, we create engaging stories about the impact of our research and deliver those stories to global affinity audiences with the intent of bringing them back to the magazine website. Once there, they are exposed to the full scope of L&S. The results have been staggering in the best way possible.
