From the Nominator

The Improving Health Worldwide 2024 publication is a striking brochure, designed to inspire and bring the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine’s mission to life. We wanted something different from previous traditional annual reports. After a period of internal reflection to embed and promote greater equity, diversity, and inclusion across our activities, LSHTM had a new vision, strategy, values, and narrative. How could we convey this in a way which represented the humanity at the heart of our research and education? Working with Spy design agency, the result is a beautiful and compelling 44 page printed publication which projects our commitment to shared health. With a luxurious look and feel, those representing LSHTM at high level meetings have been able to give it to partners, donors, and prospective students to browse through and be inspired by. We worked with our community of staff, students, and alumni to produce a selection of engaging case studies, thought leadership, quotes, and high-quality photos to support the themes of the LSHTM narrative—‘our story’—and present our financial figures. It features our bold brand colors, as well as contrasting typography where key elements pop out of the page. We received positive feedback from internal stakeholders, including contributors to the case studies, and senior leaders who have shared the brochure in the U.K. and globally. External members of our Council—the governing body of LSHTM—fed into the new narrative which is presented in this publication and supported reimagining our approach to annual reports.

From the Judges

This bright and beautifully executed piece stands out for its compelling design, exceptional photography, and captivating storytelling. Every page is eye-catching and engaging, with a clean layout that allows the strong writing and impactful visuals to shine. The content is clearly written and accessible, striking the right balance for an academic and donor audience. This is a polished publication that is purposeful in its structure and intent. It demonstrates both creative ambition and editorial clarity—an impressive achievement worthy of recognition.
