Every Voice: Honoring and Celebrating Princeton's LGBTQ+ Alumni
From the Nominator
All Princeton University alumni were invited back to campus for Every Voice: Honoring and Celebrating Princeton’s LGBTQ+ Alumni—the first alumni affinity conference since 2019. The three-day event was held September 19th through 21st on Princeton's campus and included topical programming on social justice, arts, mental and physical health, intersectionality, and the history of LGBTQ+ life at Princeton. More than 680 undergraduate and graduate alumni and their guests attended all or part of the conference. Conference branding incorporated the colors of the Progress Pride Flag, which broadened the spectrum of the previous Every Voice conference color palette to include brown and black, making it truly inclusive, which was mission-critical. The conference was led by alumni engagement in partnership with an alumni committee led by three co-chairs who worked closely to help plan a conference that was inclusive in every way. Throughout the conference, approximately 121 alumni, faculty, and staff spoke, facilitated, lead, or performed in more than 50 sessions, ensuring that alumni heard from as many voices as possible. Three principles informed the conference: Embrace and Celebrate Diversity, Create a Supportive, Respectful Environment, and Build Connections with Intention. Many attendees returned to campus for the first time since graduation, and the impact was tremendous as evidenced by post-event survey results. Outreach by the committee, focus group meetings in the regions, and inclusive programming, branding, and social media engagement all contributed to creating a successful conference and wonderful experience for all attendees.
