Connecting With is a LinkedIn-based employee spotlight series in collaboration with the Boston University human resources department. This Q&A series highlights the diverse experiences, expertise, and career paths of BU’s faculty and staff, fostering a sense of community and informing prospective employees about the benefits of working at BU. The public relations-social team worked closely with HR to identify standout employees, craft interview questions, and ensure each feature authentically reflected the individual’s voice. Since its launch, Connecting With has increased employee recognition, expanded BU’s LinkedIn reach, and reinforced the university’s reputation as an employer of choice. The series has driven meaningful interactions, with employees expressing appreciation for the opportunity to share their stories and connect with colleagues. By showcasing voices across departments, Connecting With supports BU’s missions of fostering an inclusive workplace and attracting top talent to the university. The article series is sent to 101,000 subscribers using LinkedIn’s newsletter feature.

Practical, appealing, and simple. This is an innovative use of an under-utilized LinkedIn feature. Impressive subscriber base after only one year, especially with largely organic outreach. This was a really smart way for a tiny team to have a big impact. Other institutions could emulate this approach without a big lift.
