Campus Wild Turkeys Dos and Don'ts
From the Nominator
University of California, Davis is known for its wildlife—particularly the wild turkeys that roam campus. For anyone who is unfamiliar with turkeys, they can be aggressive. But there are ways to enjoy their presence safely. During the fall quarter, there are many new students who encounter the turkeys around campus and are stumped with what to do. The UC Davis strategic communications team previously provided “Turkey Dos and Don'ts” information as static images but there was a need to provide updated tips in an entertaining way. In order to achieve this, an “info-tainment” (informative entertainment) video was created. The video was very well received by the UC Davis social media audiences as many individuals in the community have some memory or experience with the campus turkeys. Many found the video to have useful information, funny, and a place where others could share experiences of their turkey encounters.
From the Judges
This made us laugh out loud. The more we watched it, the more we wanted to look into the history of the campus turkeys. This is unique to this university and appealing to both external and internal audiences. The production is simple but effective, bringing interest to the university. For such a simple topic, it stood out amongst the competition.
