"Berklee is an arts college with a mission to cultivate creative talent. The magazine's visual style in 2020 did not reflect the college's ambition, forward-looking attitude, or dynamic character.
A two-year pandemic hiatus gave us the opportunity to reboot the magazine. For the spring/summer 2022 issue, we focused on a modern look that included more high-impact photos and illustrations, and at the same time renewed our commitment to featuring diverse community members.
For the refreshed design, we brought in a freelance designer and hired distinctive photographers and accomplished illustrators. To promote diversity, we featured people of different ages, ethnicities, genders, nationalities; and those in a variety of professional fields and at various stages of their careers.
Readers say the magazine feels more professional, and that it has articles that are relevant to their experiences. As evidence of how faculty and alumni feel about the magazine, the number of notes and updates we received for inclusion in the magazine after the redesigned issue came out increased greatly."

Improved layouts are much more creative and engaging. The judges love the use of the back cover to tease a story inside. The content throughout the magazine is laid out in such a beautiful way; it makes the reader pause to look.
