"UC San Diego is in the midst of a major physical, cultural, and intellectual transformation that is reenergizing the student experience and sparking breakthrough research and innovation. These changes are particularly noticeable as the community returns two years after the pandemic.
Our scout books and tote bags were developed to celebrate these transformations and welcome our community back to campus. Designed as functional and fun promotional tools, these items also introduce those unfamiliar with our campus to its impact on society and its position as a premier destination for business and recreation.
The scout book is a pocket-sized notebook featuring stylized illustrations of campus landmarks. Inside, pages provide detail on key campus destinations, programs, and impact, plus plenty of dot grid pages for notetaking, doodling, or dreaming up the next big thing. The accompanying canvas tote bag is a fun, fashion-forward item for everyday use that further highlights those campus transformations and landmarks.
The finished products were used as giveaways in fall 2021 at the grand opening of the trolley line, which connects our campus with the region. The event targeted the campus and San Diego community. The booth had a line down the block for the tote bags and had community members coming back throughout the day asking for more. These promotional items will be reproduced and delivered at various events to increase awareness of our campus and its appeal as a destination for art, culture, recreation, and world-class patient care."
