When a 30-year veteran of University of Portland — the Provost no less — was just three months away from retiring, he came to the marketing department with a request: Could we help him realize his long-held dream of publishing a book of his favorite speeches collected during his three-decade tenure? This book would be shared with the greater university and Holy Cross Catholic community. With limited time and resources, but driven by the desire to help our Provost close this chapter of his life on the highest of high notes, we set to work creating a beautiful book that reflected our university brand, as well as the man behind this personal yet universally appealing project.
The resulting book, Veritas Vos Liberabit, is a perfect example of how we effectively blended the University brand with a personal passion project to create a valuable work that appeals to a wide audience.

Great design has sustained, timeless impact, and this is what we see in this design that rises to meet the 30-year vision behind it. The design echoes the poetry of the content and beautifully tells the comprehensive story of this institution. The commissioned calligraphy is sumptuously gorgeous. The layout does an excellent job of queuing the reader to where they are in the book's navigation, while also employing an impressive variety of pacing and tone. A truly stunning achievement on such a small budget that was crafted completely in-house.
