Every October, UC San Francisco’s Chancellor, Sam Hawgood, addresses the UCSF community in his State of the University address. The presentation in 2020 was unique, as it was recorded and streamed with no live audience. The video highlights an extraordinary year, while captivating a remote audience and setting the stage for the chancellor’s presentation.
This video is a tribute to UCSF’s public mission under the theme of Grand Challenges. The goal was to show UCSF’s solidarity in response to a worldwide public health pandemic, and the impact on our most vulnerable populations. From student-organized blood drives and the speed at which our researchers quickly shifted gears, to our front-line health care workers volunteering in areas of need, UCSF’s efforts have been both inspiring and effective.

The video was particularly strategic in setting the stage for the chancellor's state of the university address. Additionally, the “everything has changed and it's our chance to change everything” message was particularly creative.
