From the Nominator
Six decades ago, a group of like-minded changemakers imagined a university free from the constraints of tradition and expectation. Their unprecedented vision for higher education proliferated a new way of thinking and pushed daring intellectuals to venture beyond accepted norms. The result? UC San Diego.
And to celebrate 60 years of innovation, UC San Diego organized a series of events to honor our campus’ rich history of leading-edge research, teaching, and social innovation and public service. Beginning with our annual Founders celebration in November—to commemorate the campus’ founding on November 18, 1960—and continuing into spring 2021 with our expanded virtual “Evenings of Nonconventional Wisdom” event series, this yearlong celebration comes with a number of creative elements that showcase the people, places, and discoveries that have helped define our university.
This creative suite includes an anniversary mark, a dedicated website, nineteen unique icons, videos, and written content that is being leveraged across media channels to raise awareness of our campus’ history, our role in the community, and how, 60 years after its founding, UC San Diego continues to challenge expectations and drive change that creates an impact locally and around the world.

We really appreciated the overall comprehensive campaign approach to celebrating a 60th anniversary milestone. We thought this marketing campaign had a strong brand approach, and liked the recurring theme of "non-conventional thinking." We felt the branding was creative and thoughtful, especially multimedia aspects, which were impressive.
