    From the Nominator

Launched in 2019, the Australian National University’s "Support Australia’s Students" campaign is a three-year campaign that raises funds to support equity scholarships at ANU. By supporting scholarships at ANU, donors are supporting students with immense potential, regardless of their background, and empowering them to succeed in their study and careers. This video shares the stories of Aled Morrow, a scholarship recipient, and Arun Abey, a scholarship donor. It was created to be a key asset for the fundraising campaign. The video communicates the positive impact of scholarships not only for students, but for the donor, and society more broadly. We wanted to take our audiences on a journey, and demonstrate the transformative power of education. The video also highlights the connection between student and donors, in line with the SAS campaign’s “Students + You” branding. The audience for this video was broad, encompassing alumni, donors, and prospects. It was most powerful when shown at advancement events, and in the one-to-one meetings our fundraisers had with donors and qualified prospects.

    From the Judges

We loved the simplicity and clarity of this video. The tight, clear story had a strong message, supported by a refreshing use of music and clever use of diegetic sound. Using the student's music to demonstrate the different "chapters" of the story was highly effective. The personal narrative gave the video a human connection and was beautifully filmed. We liked the concept of connecting the donor with the recipient and showing the impact of the gift on the student's life. It was also a nice touch that the donor told the audience why he gives, and encouraged others to give.
