From the Nominator
The Notable Alumni March Madness Tournament was modeled on a sports-style tournament, in which we pitted notable University of Maryland alumni from a wide variety of fields against one another to determine the ultimate winner. We chose four alumni each from four decades and matched them against one another in rounds to determine the winner from each decade, who then played off against each other to determine the overall winner. Voting took place using the polling features of Facebook and Instagram. Participants could win prizes by submitting brackets that correctly predicted the results of the tournament.
From the Judges
This was on brand with their institution, and timely connection to "March Madness." Good inclusion of alumni created a ton of engagement on their channels. This could be replicated by any institution. Good clean visuals, and great use of each social media account, such as Facebook polls and Instagram stories. Great use of resources and budget.
