Roger & Carla Smith
Bio
Roger and Carla Smith support Emporia State University through giving toward diversity education, academic success and overall student support. The Smiths volunteered countless hours for the ESU Foundation where they thoughtfully engaged with existing students, donors and friends to make sure the foundation values are upheld.
Interactions throughout their careers, engagement with students and learning through travel gave them a desire to understand and accept cultures and beliefs different from their own. True advocates of the university, they consistently cheer on the efforts and spread a sense of inclusivity and belonging among the student population.
Roger graduated from high school in 1968 and was the first person in his family to attend college. He earned both his bachelor's and master’s degrees from Emporia State University. His career concluded in 2010 when he retired from Boeing/Spirit AeroSystems.
Carla graduated from high school in 1971. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Emporia State University as well. She retired as an elementary school principal in 2010.
