Talking Shop: The World According to Brian Doyle
Brian Doyle
Editor, Portland Magazine 1991–2017
University of Portland
Soon after learning that Brian Doyle died at age 60 on May 27, 2017, members of the College and University Editors online community began sharing their favorite Doyle missives—humorous and inspirational statements that they had taped to their office doors or computer screens. Currents collected (and lightly edited and punctuated) a handful of these musings to pay homage to the Robert Sibley Magazine of the Year Award–winning editor and ultimate ambassador for institutional magazines. The author of several books, Doyle won the 2017 John Burroughs Medal for distinguished nature writing and the 2016 Oregon Book Award for young adult literature for his novel Martin Marten.
