About CASE Insights on Voluntary Support of Education

Since 1957, the VSE report has been the comprehensive and definitive source of data on fundraising outcomes in higher education institutions in the United States.

In 2022, the VSE survey was aligned with the CASE Global Reporting Standards. The 2022 report includes new content such as giving from donor-advised funds and public university foundation board members. The report also summarizes the first year of data on New Funds Committed, which enables institutions to distinguish between what donors contributed in the reporting year and what their advancement team contributed by securing new pledges, bequest intentions, and outright gifts.

The report contains more than 60 tables and graphs with explanatory text organized into distinct parts, making it easy to navigate. This year’s issue does not have independent school data. That study will have results, published separately. The publication concludes with step-by-step details on how CASE members can download even more content from the CASE Insights data portal, including a prepared report with more than 25 columns of core data for each participating institution. Access to the data portal is a member benefit and available to non-educational institutions by subscription.
