Build Your Workplace Culture on Actions
While culture statements can act as a guide to achieving success in the workplace, human actions shouldn't be overlooked. Here’s how workplaces can make culture statements matter by tying them to actions.
- Hire the right people. If you hire team members whose values don’t align with those of the workplace’s even well-crafted statements won’t result in the actions that are being aimed for. However, even hiring for fit doesn’t guarantee a team member will be suitable, as a workplace also needs to establish how they will handle employees that don’t align with its culture.
- Let culture shape strategy, not just attitudes. Shaping attitudes and identifying strategic objectives are important to consider when building a workplace culture. It can be important to present challenges in a way that helps team members understand the decisions to make that will move the workplace towards its goals.
