Over more than two decades, Sir Anton has embedded philanthropy, civic engagement, and global partnerships into the heart of university strategy. Since becoming Principal and Vice-Chancellor in 2009, the University of Glasgow’s income has nearly doubled, supported by a £110 million fundraising campaign – the largest in its history – which helped deliver a £2.5 billion campus transformation, including the donor-funded Mazumdar-Shaw Advanced Research Centre. He has also championed widening participation, with more than 8,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds graduating from Glasgow during his tenure.
Beyond the institution, Sir Anton has been a longstanding CASE volunteer. As Chair of the CASE Europe Board of Trustees (2013–2019) and member of the Global Governance Steering Committee (2017–2020), he played a pivotal role in shaping CASE’s volunteer leadership model. Recognised as a CASE Laureate since 2019, he continues to inspire advancement professionals worldwide through his leadership and thought contributions.
