Unique Course in Leadership for Advancement Professionals
The CASE Academy—a course sequence hosted over a seven-month time period—provides advancement professionals with the opportunity to engage with and learn from each other and from industry leaders. CASE Academy Faculty are among the most seasoned, successful, and respected advancement leaders in the world. Based on the CASE Competencies Model©, itself the product of an intensive volunteer-led process to define essential skills and attributes for advancement professionals, the seven-segment course combines both strategic guidance and practical advice to prepare participants to serve as leaders throughout their career in the profession.
Learning Objectives
- Apply situational leadership to adjust leadership approach, decisions, and practices to remain effective over time in different advancement contexts and with different individuals
- Build and sustain high-performing teams through fostering trust, accountability, and constructive conflict resolution
- Integrate strategic thinking as a daily leadership practice, shifting from reactive to proactive work
- Cultivate intrapersonal and interpersonal emotional intelligence to improve retention, team culture, and resilience
- Build authentic relationships with staff, peers, leadership, donors, and others with consistency, compassion, and institution-first thinking, while adapting to each relationship’s unique dynamics
- Make intentional, values-driven decisions to align short-term actions with long-term and institutional goals
- Use relevant data, evidence, and analysis alongside professional judgement to inform decisions, evaluate options, assess risk, and improve outcomes
- Lead through polarization using values-based practices to facilitate honest dialogue, reframing judgement with curiosity, and finding shared ground among diverse stakeholders without compromising your core principles
- Demonstrate intercultural competence by adapting communication and listening behaviors across cultural and identity differences, while maintaining authenticity
- Navigate ethical gray areas with confidence, applying professional standards to reconcile personal, professional, institutional, and societal ethics
- Build a personal leadership identity rooted in integrity, even when under pressure or scrutiny
