You Make it Look So Easy! Leadership, Burnout, and Building Sustainable Event Cultures
This closing plenary invites attendees to shift focus from the events we produce to the people producing them. Through candid conversation, personal reflection, and shared community dialogue, we’ll explore the realities of working in a profession that demands creativity, precision, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and constant responsiveness — often all at once.
Building on themes introduced throughout the conference, this session will examine sustainability, burnout, leadership, and the hidden labor behind successful experiences. Together, we’ll reflect on what it means to build not only impactful events, but also healthy teams, supportive cultures, and careers with longevity and joy.
Attendees will leave with space to process what they’ve learned, identify what they want to carry forward, and develop a practical plan for how they will apply and share those insights with their teams, supervisors, and campus partners upon returning home. The session is designed to help participants leave not only inspired, but grounded, intentional, and equipped to translate conference reflection into meaningful action at their institutions.
Speakers: Julie Brady, Assistant Vice President, Seattle University, Bobby Dunlap, Senior Associate Director, Alumni Engagement, Northwestern University, Crystal Square-Williams, Executive Director, University Events, Norfolk State University
