Show me the money! How to make a compelling case for investment in your Advancement team
At a time when budgets are squeezed and sector-wide cutbacks are impacting both staff capacity and morale, many Advancement teams are feeling the pressure to achieve more with less resource. Yet, even in the toughest of times, extra resources can be found, and Advancement is one of the few areas that can deliver a great ROI and deliver significant impact through engagement with relatively little funding. So, how do you make your case for continued – or even increased – funding to your institutional leadership (or to your boss if you’re seeking a larger slice of the Advancement budget for your team). A panel of hugely-experienced Advancement leaders from small to large Advancement offices will be sharing their insights into how they have made an effective case for investment in a range of areas (regular giving, legacies, alumni relations, operations— as well as major gifts) during these challenging financial times. Advice will include ways to avoid common pitfalls and make a strong case using a blend of not just cold, hard data but softer ways to exert influence and overcome deeper, and often harder, cultural issues that can present barriers to gaining the necessary buy-in. Leave with some new, pragmatic ideas for how you can secure the necessary resourcing for your team to continue its critical work in helping your institution maximise its impact on society.
