Bio

Alex Schultz is Chief Marketing Officer and VP of Analytics for Facebook, leading consumer marketing and product analytics globally.

Alex brings nearly two decades of direct response marketing experience to his CMO role including his early work at eBay before joining Facebook in 2007. Today, he is responsible for the global consumer marketing organization promoting Facebook’s brands, products and services. 

Alex leads the analytics team as well (since 2015), and the internationalization team (since 2011), helping launch many of the company’s most impactful products and initiatives including the Community Standards Enforcement Report, memories product, safety check and charitable giving. Instrumental in growing the Facebook app, Instagram and Messenger to over a billion users, Alex pioneered the integration of product and direct response marketing and has run some of the biggest, most effective online direct response campaigns in the company’s 16 year history.

Alex is gay, uses he/him pronouns, and is the executive sponsor of Facebook’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group. He has helped advance LGBTQ+ product initiatives including the addition of same-sex marriage and custom gender to Facebook as well as the rainbow-filter profile picture tool. 

He holds an M.Sc. in Natural Sciences from Magdalene College, Cambridge, specializing in experimental and theoretical Physics. In college, Alex’s passion for online marketing, and a paper airplanes website he founded, helped pay for his education. “I’m incredibly lucky,” he says now, “my passion is my job.” From London, he lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
