About the CASE-CCAE Support of Education Survey, Canada
CASE, in partnership with the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education conducted the first survey of fundraising by Canadian colleges, polytechnics, and universities in 2018 filling a critical need for authoritative data on charitable support for Canadian higher education.
The report of that survey provided a comprehensive overview of the important role philanthropy plays in supporting Canadian higher education and demonstrated the impact advancement has on students, researchers, and institutions. The forty-eight institutions that participated in the inaugural survey secured over CAN$1.5 billion in private support from over 320,000 individual and institutional donors.
The survey:
- Raises the profile of higher education advancement in Canada and increase public understanding of the role of philanthropy in support of education;
- Provides data to help measure the impact of public policy and inform advocacy initiatives supporting educational advancement in Canada and globally;
- Enables participating institutions to measure and benchmark fundraising progress year-over-year and among peer institutions;
- Helps institutional leaders set goals, assess performance, build capacity, and make informed, strategic decisions regarding investments in advancement.
The survey has been adapted from models used by CASE in the U.K. Europe, Australia, and New Zealand that have become the authoritative source of data on philanthropic support of higher education in those regions.
